WYLLIE.-On May 19, at "La Rochelle," to Mr and Mrs D. G. Wyllie, Gladstone road, Mosgiel-a daughter.
Marianne Ellenor Wyllie, born at La Rochelle Maternity Hospital, Dunedin, 19-5-1945. Marianne attended East Taieri Primary School from 1950-1957. She then went to Otago Girls' High School from 1958-1962, gaining her School Certificate, University Entrance and Higher Leaving Certificate. She carried on to the University of Otago, graduating in 1966 with a BSc in Chemistry.
Marianne was employed as a Graduate Technician in the Chemistry Department of the University of Otago. Her main task was to operate the NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Instrument)...new technology then. After 10 years of bringing up children she returned to the Chemistry Department to run the Campbell Microanalytical Lab which was a small commercial lab doing microanalyses for all of New Zealand and many Australian research facilities. She worked there from 1983-2010.
Marianne married Trevor Dick on March 14, 1970 and moved to Kirriemuir St, Dunedin. They had 3 children: Phillipa born 27/5/72, Craig born 9/9/73 and Christopher born 18/3/76. Marianne was widowed in 1993.
Over the years she has been involved in a variety of school and community activities including approximately 30 years in the Girl Guide movement. She enjoyed many overseas trips: America, England, Europe, China, Nepal, India, Peru, Turkey, France, Spain, Portugal and Morocco, as well as many parts of Australia.
On retirement in 2010 she became a Friend of the Botanic Garden and volunteers in their Information Centre. She enjoys her involvement with her two grandsons and time to appreciate family and friends.
