Thomas Grant.
Like most of his brothers, Thomas worked on “Clairinch” after leaving school and has spent almost his whole life there. In May, 1913, Tom married Miss Jessie Paterson who absorbed the Grant tradition to a remarkable degree, a warm welcome being extended to relatives and friends as of yore. Thomas remained as lessee of “Clairinch” until his son George married Doreen Myers in 1955 when they became lessees. Tom took a keen interest in community affairs. He has always been a keen follower of sport, enjoyed cricket in his young days and later played bowls for several years. He has always taken a keen interest in football, particularly in the young men who wore the West Taieri Club jersey in the immediate post 1914-18 War period. It was as Librarian that he gave outstanding and unstinted service to the community. For over 20 years he had control of the Outram Public Library, a hobby and service which he greatly enjoyed.
