Robert Grant.
Robert was 11 months old when the family moved from the Tokomairiro district to the Taieri.. As “Gladfield” had been bought before his schooling days were over, farming became his occupation and long full days were spent working at both “Clairinch” and “Gladfield”. After his marriage in 1905 to Miss Elizabeth Watson, Robert and his wife lived at “Gladfield” for two years before moving to Benmore in Southland where. in partnership with his brother Charles, he had bought a farm.. In 1914 he moved to Lochiel district and farmed later in Hokonui and Winton, before being appointed in 1918, manager of the Canterbury Seed Company at Leeston, a position he held until his retirement to Christchurch in 1936. On this farm good crops of wheat, barley, oats and peas were grown and at times the Agricultural Department carried out experiments with crops. Sheep were grazed.. Robert took a keen interest in the Presbyterian Church and held office as a manager, and an elder in each of the districts he lived in, as well as being a member of the choir and a Sunday School teacher. He is still an elder at St. Paul's Christchurch. To other community activities he gave of his time, being chairman of the Leeston School Committee for several years..
On the very eve of publication it is very delightful to be able to congratulate Robert and Elizabeth on the celebration of their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on 3rd January, 1965, and to record a happy family gathering of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren around them; the warm good wishes of many relatives and friends were showered upon them on this happy and memorable occasion.
